If Christians Can Do ALL Things Through Christ, Why Are So Many Christians NOT Doing Very Much?? There is a popular verse that many Christians can quote effortlessly, which is Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”.
If verbalization of that scripture is enough, why do we see the world filled with far too many Christians who CAN’T seem to do much of anything?? They can’t overcome sinful habits, they can’t seem to find peace during life’s trials, they can’t seem to stop being negative and tearing down their fellow man. Why is that the case? They clearly know the verse from verbalization and memorization and they truly believe it. So where is the disconnect occurring?
The reason for the disconnect is because verbalization (saying scripture) alone is not enough! To grab hold of this verse and its application you must FIRST understand the foundation upon which it was built and the context/condition that precedes it. Philippians 4:9 tells us “The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, PRACTICE THESE THINGS, and the God of peace WILL be with you”. The key word in this verse is "Practice". The reason so many Christians who profess they can do all things through Christ but often “CAN’T” seem to actually do them is because speaking God's word is not the same thing as practicing God's word. Knowing it is not the same as doing it and memorizing it is not the same as applying it.
Memorizing and speaking God’s word is a strong tower in our Christian walk providing that it’s built on the solid foundation of daily life application. Verbalization and memorization of God’s word should move us to put it into practice in our daily life.
The end result of “LIVING” God’s word by applying it in our lives (not merely verbalizing it) will result in what the Apostle Paul wrote about in Philippians 4:13. It' s the reality of knowing that despite our circumstances, with obedience to Christ and His word in our hearts, we will persevere through the trials of life and face them head on. Why?? Because we CAN do all things through Christ in HIS strength which strengthens us!
